Open Learning Systems Educaton Trust
OLSET continues to strive for the achievement of ‘a better education for all’ through its cost effective and innovative distance learning programme.  As we enter our 17th year of operation we mark our progress alongside that of South Africa and the remarkable educational revolution that has taken place since apartheid days.  What we have learnt working with teachers and learners in primary classrooms in the New South Africa we have also shared with colleagues in many countries facing similar challenges of poor resources, ill-equipped classrooms and a need for better training.  Our developing website features projects past and present, a gallery of images from OLSET’s classrooms, and information about English in Action, the Radio Learning Programme for primary schools.  We will build from here and welcome your feedback.

Learning Materials

OLSET's colourful range of learning materials transform and enliven classrooms and the learning experience of pupils. Teachers’ guides, learner activity books, readers, posters, colour charts, alphabet friezes, weather charts, shape sets, colour sets, calendars, radios: the list of OLSET classroom materials is impressive. These are distributed to over 70,000 classes in 25,000 schools across seven of South Africa's provinces. The logistics of this exercise are enormous and more than 400 tonnes of learning materials have been transported to some of the most isolated communities in the country.
